A little to the West of Faro is the town of Alvor. It is a great holiday destination, with things to do so suit many interests. The reason I travelled to Alvor was to do some skydiving at one of the two skydiving operations at its local airport (I’m the one in red).
As you can see from this shot, there is a wonderfully long sandy beach (more to come of that later), a marina for sail- and other boats, just out of this shot is one of a number of golf courses and for those with a different sense of adventure, there’s a local racetrack too. It was built to host international Moto GP races for motorbikes and is used for go-carting in the off-seasons. We chose to visit it when the weather wasn’t quite up for skydiving.
Dotted throughout the old town of Alvor are a range of different types of accommodation, from top level 5* hotels, to self catering apartments. As a team of 4 skydivers, we chose to book an apartment, which had these wonderful views out of the front door and from the terrace.
And in the evening, sunsets behind the water-tower were breathtaking.
One one of our evening walks to relax after a day’s training, we also encountered both types of cat – black and white!
