Sculpture and perspective

On what was the outskirts of Florence is an estate which is now a welcome green refuge in a busy Italian city. The layout has lent itself to long paths, some enclosed by vegetation, others leading you to the centre of a pool of cooling water, at times guarded by dogs and usually with an obvious vanishing point.

Sculptures are dotted all over the gardens. There are collections of gods or representations of geographical regions, other sculptures are less obviously related to each other.

The views of the city allow for a combination of pathway, vanishing point, cooling pond and sculpture.

The sculpture collection includes modern items too, some quite small, others rather large.

And of course, my favourite god, Bacchus, is depicted too. I was disappointed that the fountain would be filled with (not even drinking-) water not wine.

However, in true artistic style, the drinking water fountain was decorated with a sculpture too.
