West Coast Plants

I didn’t venture far from the coast while in Western Australia leaving me loads to explore next time I visit this continent. Some of my catching up with an old friend was done in the Botanical Garden in Perth, where once again I was mesmerised by the birds in the trees, which in Europe you’d only see in cages.

An ancient Boab tree was moved into this botanical garden when it was found to be in the way of some construction in 2008. The damage to the trunk which can be seen is repairing itself and the botanists seem content that despite the move (or perhaps because of it), this over 750 year old tree is still alive.

As you would expect, there are of course loads of flowering plants in the gardens too and as is often the case, they are interspersed with artwork.

A war memorial is included in the layout, which overlooks the bay beyond the city centre.

This is the last of my posts from my travels around Australia. It was only a month long, although it has taken many more to tell all the tales. Thank you for coming along, I hope you will enjoy my travels around Europe in the coming months while I plan my next great journey.
