Having arrived in Erie, PA at midday rather than first thing in the morning, I ditched my plans for the city and set off exploring. The Presque Isle State Park holds on to the city by a narrow strip and provides a sheltered bay and harbour to the mainland, a wonderful preserve on the peninsula and a view of Canada (on a good day) on the lake side.
I walked 2 miles to the park from where I was staying and stopped off at Beach 1 for a rest and yoga practice looking out over the lake.
Crossing over at its narrowest point, I then followed the trail on the bay side looking back at the city of Erie.
The bright cerise stems of this plant jumped out at me while walking past them. I was amazed by the extent to which the colour deepens as the flowers turn into ripe berries. Any ideas what plant this is?
