Readers of this blog from its start may have noticed my interest in trains. In my last months in the UK before moving to the US I visited old railway museums (The Railway Child) and I have also travelled around India on trains (Baroda). Now I’m embarking on a grand tour around the southern, western and northern edges of the US and then straight down the (not quite) middle to complete the square on an Amtrak USA Rail Pass.
I will be starting on the Sunset Limited, picking it up in Houston and travelling West to California,
in LA I will be boarding the Coast Starlight train and travel up to Seattle,
from Seattle I will take the Empire Builder eastbound to Chicago,
turning right again at Chicago taking the City of New Orleans south to its namesake,
where I will re-join the Sunset Limited back to Houston.
