Lombard Street

The last stage of my journey to the office is walking up Lombard Street from Bank Station.  It isn’t a very long street, although it has quite a history.  Home to a long time mayor of the City of London, the church of St Edmund, King and Martyr (onto which the board detailing the Alderman is fixed) and the famous Lloyd’s Coffee House in which shipping and cargo were discussed and the first insurance policies were written.

The building that house the Lloyd’s Coffee House is now a Sainsbury’s Local…

This is a street in which I encourage you to look up at the buildings, rather than at your feet (although perhaps not during rush hour when it gets rather busy!)

The narrowness of the road does make for a good focal point onto the newly built ‘Walkie Talkie’ building slightly east of the top of Lombard Street.
