This is a scheduled post likely to be old news to anyone following me on facebook. To keep my WordPress routine going, this introductory post to my adventure was written before I got on the train and will be published when I’m already en-route.
It is a journey in the US which I planned on using the Amtrak USA Rail Pass ticket again. It turns out this journey was cheaper to buy each ticket individually, so although I’m tagging is as USA Rail Pass, that isn’t technically true…
The planned route is taking the Lake Shore Limited from Chicago to New York City (stopping at Elkhart, Erie and Poughkeepsie)
Returning to Chicago on the Cardinal (stopping in Philadelphia and Charlottesville).

Don’t get off the train at Elkhart – Indiana is weird. The Lakeshore Limited has some great views ……..
It was raining in Elkhart so I didn’t do much exploring. Perhaps that way I avoided the weirdness…
Oh yes for sure. My Dad was from Indiana – although the southern part …… still weird.
