Weißer Hirsch, the name of this district, is also home to Dresden’s observatory. Named after its founder, Manfred von Ardenne, it was re-opened to the public in 2007. We missed its opening time on this occasion but with some advance investigation, may pay it a visit inside, not just from the outside.

There are of course roads and footpaths which lead up to this part of the city. We decided to walk past this particular one and take the railway back down to Loschwitz.
