Katowice Cathedral

The city of Katowice in southern Poland grew in size and importance due to its position on coal reserves.  It is now home to one of the Flyspot indoor skydiving tunnels which hosted the 5th Flyspot Open and Polish Nationals in September.  I was invited to judge the competition and managed to sneak in a couple of hours of sight-seeing before starting my return journey via Krakow.

Although I gather there is quite a lot to see in Katowice, I was only able to walk to the cathedral and back in the time I had available.

When I got there, mass was being said, so I didn’t feel it was appropriate to take pictures.  The stained glass is beautiful and I’d recommend a visit inside if you are in Katowice.

The architecture around the city is varied and interesting

and a balcony reminiscent of the Galarijas from my visit to Malta.

I was also slightly amused by the ‘old’ and ‘new’ cars parked alongside each other here.
